Alexis Davis versus Valerie Leteourneau, Take Two
by Marco Antico
Alexis Davis and her camp at Dayboll Jiu-Jitsu have been asking to fight Valerie Letourneau
since July. It seems like a fair and very logical matchup as both women have a similar record:
Davis is 2-1 and Leteouneau is 1-1 with both of their losses coming by knockout to Sarah
Kaufman. Both are very skilled grapplers who have been working extensively on their striking.
Also, there aren't very many female fighters in Canada at the moment which makes this fight
seem all the more sensible.
Davis notified Leteourneau of her desire to fight her at TKO 30: Apocalypse on September
28th. Oddly, Leteourneau's camp responded by saying that only if Davis sent them a tape of
herself would they consider the fight. Stephane Dube explained to CanadianMMA.com that it
was her kickboxing coach, Victor Vargotsky, who was being ultra protective of Leteourneau
and that he had blamed her fellow trainers for accepting the fight with Sarah Kaufman in the
first place. Kaufman, or as some call her "The Terminator", did lay quite a beating on Kaufman
back at TKO 29. However, Leteourneau also managed to floor Kaufman with a high-kick which
had her inches away from a TKO victory.
Eventually, although reluctantly, Davis' trainer (Dave Dayboll) went to great lengths to get a
tape of Davis sent over to Dube's gym in mid-September. Still, the fight did not manifest itself.
We now stand nearly two months away from the next TKO show, scheduled for December 14th
and Dayboll is once again asking to make Davis versus Leteourneau a reality. Davis is coming
off an impressive win at ECC this past weekend while in the meantime Leteourneau has been
doing some amateur kickboxing fights. As a fan of the sport, we can only hope that cooler
heads will prevail this time and that this very interesting fight will come to fruition sooner rather
than later.
